pleased to meet you

Look who showed up for dinner!

I'm going to have a harder time eating this guy now that we've been introduced.
We bonded while discussing our chins...

barriers

We create our own barriers.
We imagine them to be impenetrable, made of stone and hard metals, that are dug deeply into the earth.
What we don't realize is that there is freedom on the other side. The water is not as deep as it appears, the release is not as far away as it looks. Once your feet get wet you have the support of old foundations. You can grab the rope and pull what you want towards you, release yourself to your new surroundings and just go with it....

transitions

A fleeting moment.

I love this community of old souls.
They have traveled from high above to underfoot where we will watch them disappear back into the earth.

beginning to say goodbye

Right now it's all about color and intensity and saturation.

Soon it will be about form and contrast and simple lines.

Winter will bring a beauty all it's own….

out to play

I spent the afternoon wandering with my camera. I discovered auburn colored sea grasses backlit by the late afternoon sun, heavy chains wrapped on a rusted orange pipe left from the dock that was brought on shore for the winter. Later I found an old sunken boat reflected in a still pond, and then a large group of wild turkeys waddled in front of my lens. They were frantic and disrupted the quiet of this secluded pond, ducks took wing and left me alone to enjoy the crazy turkeys.
I ended my day on this dock watching the Long Island winter sunset.
What did you do? nothing
Where did you go? nowhere

paying the price

Impression is beautiful, serene, dreamlike.
Reality is being eaten alive by no-see-ums.

lemon meringue

The winds were heavy and it was raining lightly. Great time to head to the beach and watch the power of the waves and follow the feeding shorebirds.
I expected to see birds chasing the waves for food. But instead I witnessed a lemon shark get caught by local fishermen. Now I realize my sensitivities spill over to sharks as well, I can't seem to escape my heart wrenching response to captured animals. But thankfully he was released to swim our Florida waters once more. I have since read that they are social creatures so I imagine his group is glad to have him back. I just hope the sore on his mouth heals soon.
 He was beautiful.

Blowing Rock

It's magical what a slow shutter speed can do. Wouldn't you love to have that power over your life?

morning preening

There was an early morning mist, the sun was hidden from me.
And then it slowly burned off and introduced clear beautiful blue skies. This American Kestrel sat on top of a very tall dead tree and preened in the morning light.
