up close and personal

I'm taking a break from looking to the skies.

And have fallen into this orchid

where I plan on spending some time.

on the wing

This female juvenile osprey will be on her way to South America to spend her winter for the next two seasons. When she finally finds her way back here she will be ready to become a mother. I have such respect for these birds and their amazing migration. For now I am in awe watching them soar over the bay, often with a fish in their talons.

Happy afternoon

There were over about 20 egrets and herons in our nook.
The day was overcast and the tide was high.
I went to get my camera to photograph the birds wading in the high grass.
They were so quiet and beautiful as they gathered with so many others.

And then this heron flew.

I followed with my lens.

I followed with my heart as well.

not an osprey

Had to run to get my binoculars. Who is on our Osprey nest!

Oh fabulous, a juvenile red shouldered hawk. I quickly got my camera and began my stealth crawl around the outside of the house.

She was busy preening and didn't notice me.
But I noticed her yellow foot was always held up and I began to worry.

Then she lost her balance and almost fell to her demise.
My camera was on burst mode as I clenched my jaw watching this sweet young bird.

She hauled herself back up on the nest.

Sat there for awhile and then just disappeared on the other side of the nest.
I haven't seen her since.

 I wonder if she'll survive.

on top of my world

It's hard to get any happier than climbing to the top of my favorite mountain and sitting in the sun.
