color wheels up

I am trading in this color pallet for another.
These orangey reds and musty yellows will remain in the north and I shall head for the aquas and  blues and sandy whites.

a backdrop

The power of nature.
The reds were so vibrant and the pond so dark.

And when I changed my point of view I changed the light.
Stay in transition, it's a great opportunity for growth.

breakfast

Well today's early morning shoot was wonderful. I was too late for the really low warm light that I love. At this time of year with nature's golden colors the newest light of the day is beyond beautiful. I decided to walk the beach at our new house. When I drove down the dirt road the skies became covered with birds. I had sent them flying. Masses of them shot out of the low brush and the juvenile osprey squawked his way across the sky. I apologized profusely and waited patiently for their return. I was rewarded with these images and about 100 others. My heart is still beating out of turn...

mist a fying

This early morning was so beautiful. The mist kept rolling in and the birds flew overhead.
And I was a bit of a disaster.
A singular swan bathed in front of my lens and then made a dramatic upward neck thrust and huge wing span. I got his bottom half and missed the head entirely. A pair of mallards swam together in the warm light under the changing leaves. My shutter speed was too slow and they are a blur, and I don't mean a pretty blur. Two huge swans flew overhead, their wings almost touching each other, calling out to the morning, I was aimed at something else.
But I will try again tomorrow because I love being out there.

A wooly encounter

I try not to take these things personally but when I arrived they ran for the hills. Actually they ran to the other side of the field, they couldn't get away from me fast enough, a regular "outta here" stampede. I have learned over time to sneak up on them hoping they won't notice me. This year I actually turned my back to them and pretended I didn't want to see them, while walking backwards with my camera and tripod. What I won't do to get the image.
And then it happened, one lone sheep fell baa over baa with me.

coming and going

This mist beckoned me to follow.
Not knowing what's ahead keeps life interesting.
I love Scotland.

feather fluffs

I have been sorting out images and printing. I came upon these long forgotten photographs that I made at New York Botanical Gardens back in 2012. This little guy was having a bath. He flew into the the brook and found this spot in the tree to get to work.

He cleaned each feather with his beak and did a great deal of shaking and spinning.

Then he sent each wing out to dry, one at a time.
Don't you just love him!

under my feet

The high tides are leaving the promise of autumn on the beach.

Where have you been?

Did you have fun?
