A water hug

Sometimes in order to push forward you need to close your eyes and become one with your world.

Feather Ready

I didn't get this beautiful just sitting here.

It took quite a bit of time preening and checking for the uninvited.

Now I'm feather ready.

sunbeams

When I sit by the side of the Ausable river I often watch for the sun to catch the curl of the water as it finds it's way downstream. There is a magical glow that emanates from the crest of the wave as it meets the river rocks.
Somehow I had forgotten to look for the magic in the crashing ocean waves. I was too caught up in the enormity and vastness and pounding of those waves. But this particular morning I was drawn in to the transparency of the sun shining through the tips of the breaking waves. It felt ancient and sparked a desire to keep looking for the light that dances in the transition, the space between coming and going.

These young limey green leaves will mature into dark green 6' long branches weighed down with bright pink pom pom flowers

It's really all about the light. These images were created within 5 minutes of each other.

standing tall

I expected to see birds, bugs and flowering plants but instead found empty trees that had not woken to springtime. These naked trees invited me to play with my creative spirit. I took their lead and discovered another way of seeing.

tomorrow

I want to hold my grandchildren by the hand and introduce them to life, to the ocean's introduction of itself. The warm quiet beginnings of the white foamy retreat, the ankle deep tidal pulls, the surprise of the lapping waves, the pounding of the surf. I will watch from the shore as they grow and learn to dive headfirst into all of it.

Being together

Tully and I watched this great blue heron in the early evening on the golf course. We also watched a tricolor heron, a little blue heron, a great egret, a snowy egret and an ibis, all foraging along the banks of our ponds. Tully sat right next to me, never moving while we watched them fly and feed. She has learned that when the camera comes out of the backpack she is to sit still. That is not as easy for her as it is for me. She is just happy to be out there with me and I am just happy to be out there….

high-end real estate

Great Blue Herons are nesting once again. He is very busy flying about looking for nesting material. She approves his gift and takes it in her beak and ever so gently pushes and pokes the stick until it fits just the way she likes in their evolving nest. Now she waits for something just a little bigger to arrive next time.
