offerings

I love low tide, it smells thick and alive, all slippery with tiny creatures waiting to return to the water.

Heart wren-ching

The babies have fledged! I didn't see them all go but I did see the last one flutter about under the awning and all around the garden. Mom was just returning with a fat juicy one when she discovered that her youngest was missing from the birdhouse. It was so touching to watch her go in and immediately come back out with the worm still dangling from her beak. She looked totally shocked and looked all around as if to say where are you! The littlest was actually hanging under the glass coffee table only a few inches from me. But all is good, now the parents are chasing after their chicks who are playing hide and seek in the garden. Parenthood is exhausting....

Tully has a thought

I have something to say. Its very hot outside. I recommend that you lie on your belly in the cool dark earth of mom's garden. Then have a long cold drink from the hose. Afterwards you can look at the birds but don't bother them cause it's too hot. That's all I have to say, oh wait a minute, that thing over my right eye is a flower seed, I like to help out as much as I can. It's just me and the bees.

Rooster Tails

A Bahama mama, I mean dada. He posed and strutted and kept my camera busy for quite awhile one early morning. Love the aqua and lime around him .

managing the chirping...

Look who's back! While I was gone these parents were very busy feeding their new littles.
Tully and I are back at it, watching, photographing and enjoying the peacefulness of early morning. Tully under the tripod never moving, except of course for an occasional chipmunk, she is only human, I mean dog...

off Island

I have a super wide angle lens that offers a different view of my world. It fell out of my backpack onto the tarmac at the airport, a bouncing ker plunk. My heart did the same thing.
However it worked just fine for helping me express the beauty of Harbour Island in the Bahamas.

fox tales

It was late in the day, I had been shooting the low tide mussels and stones and seaweed, totally lost in the macro world of LI Sound. I got in the car and then I saw the fox. Of course I had the wrong lens on my camera and it was starting to rain. I quickly changed lens, while softly praying that the fox would stay near me. Apparently she was also near this mother's nest.

The bird swooped and poked and relentlessly protected her babies. The fox was startled and after much back and forth with the bird she left the area and headed back out to the beach. Of course I wish I had a faster shutter speed to capture this drama but I didn't.
I love the image below, the outline of the bird on the barn tells the story to me.

parenting

This is the time for lessons on loving and letting go. Birds in nature seem to handle it better than most of us. Let's keep our fingers crossed for these fuzzy littles.

nature gives and takes away

The red tailed fox was at the edge of the beach garden. We made eye contact once again. I created my image and she ran away after hearing Tully bark. Yes, that's a bird in her mouth, freshly killed, and if you look closely you will see the bird's mate in the bushes watching over this harsh reality.

Eye popping poppies

I love photographing poppies, but their life span goes by way too fast. They are fragile and a good storm will do them in. I was lucky to find these treasures at the NY Botanical Gardens. Do you have a preference?
