transition

The Magnolia tree is busier than I first thought. I saw a beautiful perfectly formed blossom on my Tully walk this morning. When I went back with my camera, 10 minutes later, the blossom had already opened up further. While I spent a quiet 45 minutes observing and photographing the tree I was struck by the visual passage of time. The above image is the beginnings of a tightly bound bud, not quite ready to emerge.

My morning blossom opening itself to me, the fragrance is beyond wonderful. So sweet...

and my favorite, the aftermath of a blossom too shortly lived. I especially love the dried magnolia hat hanging on, not ready to let it go.

Florida's very own shuttle

We will be heading back to New York soon, leaving our beautiful Florida behind. Today I sat on the beach and watched a seagull follow a pelican feeding in the ocean. The seagull repeatedly landed on the pelican after the pelican had swooped at top speed to catch a fish. I mean I have NEVER seen that before. It happened over and over. I wasn't sure whether the pelican was loving this attention or getting really annoyed. He had a passenger on his back!
Not unlike the space shuttle flying over NYC, just Florida style....

Oh by the way, the Least Terns have just arrived to nest on the beach. Very busy exciting time. We are expecting little ones in about a month!

pretty boy

This bird was at Butterfly World. The colors are beyond beautiful. I especially love the contrast between all his glory and the stark minimalistic background.

One of the Littles

When you look into the eyes of this child you can't help but to see yourself reflected back. She makes you want to be the best you can be....

The great wait...

This regal great blue heron seems to be contemplating the very nature of things. He is standing tall with his wings folded over as if to accept whatever comes along. He is content to wait among the grasses and wild flowers that border his world.

Taking notice

Magnolia leaves on a grey day with filtered light behind them.

Blossom with a fly by visitor.
Their smell is sweet and memorable.

out on a limb

I have not forgotten Tomorrow. I will always be looking for him in one form or another. I have a few of his fuzzy chest feathers next to my computer. They become airborne if I don't keep them secure. It's hard to hang on to them and even harder to let them go....

the waiting game

While playing golf today we saw a very friendly red bellied woodpecker not more than 8' away from us on a low bush. He was busy pecking and then simply hung himself upside down on a swaying branch and had an afternoon swing.
This image was taken last summer in my garden on Long Island. I watched him take sunflower seeds from my bird feeder and land in the tree everytime to eat. I simply aimed my camera at the tree, set my exposure, and waited for him to land. I got quite a few fun shots this way.

wow potential

When you first look at this guy you think he has little potential for wowing anyone. He scurries fast and tries to get in the house, Tully in hot pursuit. I'm looking at one now who has splayed himself against the window screen, kind of creepy actually. As I look around the studio windows there are 4 of them now in assorted prone positions. But then one of them does this magical throat thing and I have to say I'm impressed aren't you?.

the littles

I have been missing in action. My heart has been full with little feet and very complex conversations about important things, like trucks and butterflies and turtles. Now I'm back to missing them once again.

like a rock

It's important to have support when you need it, especially when the water runs deep and you've exhausted yourself, but don't stay too long or you will forget who you are. Be willing once again to move with it, to let the water run off your back.

early light

Sunrise in the Everglades at Anhinga Trail

I welcomed the alligator that slipped quietly into this image.
