While playing golf today we saw a very friendly red bellied woodpecker not more than 8' away from us on a low bush. He was busy pecking and then simply hung himself upside down on a swaying branch and had an afternoon swing.
This image was taken last summer in my garden on Long Island. I watched him take sunflower seeds from my bird feeder and land in the tree everytime to eat. I simply aimed my camera at the tree, set my exposure, and waited for him to land. I got quite a few fun shots this way.
