Don't you just love Florida!

where did she go?
Yep, I've heard the same thing, been wondering where she is. Why would she want to go up north in the frigid grey cold! Word has it she will be back on Friday.
I'll hang out here and keep an eye out for her.

a walk on the beach
The tides were strong and high.
I watched this mangrove leaf get stripped clean only to be buried in the sand moments later. Some moments it was bare and beautiful in the low light, then next it was tossed and turned in the surf.
But it's curled edges hung on to the sand spending the last days free of its roots.

An Avocet
This is my first sighting of an avocet.
They are so beautiful, contrasting black and white feathers, with long slender bills.
Even their name is beautiful.
They feed by whooshing back and forth in the water.
I keep thinking about them and love to pull up this image.
This would make a good valentine card.

flying high
My tail feathers aren't that pretty either but look where they've taken me.
The view is great up here.

ownership
Sometimes it's hard to show off your own tail feathers because you can't always see what's back there.
What if they aren't as beautiful as you think they should be.
Will anyone notice?
Do you really care if they do?

no cold shoulder here
May I present myself? I'm a red shouldered hawk. I'm a bit shy around humans, unlike those black bellied whistling ducks who prance around and show themselves to whoever will watch. I prefer to stay in the distance, to watch and hunt and otherwise occupy myself. I'm glad for the opportunity to say hello, from my tree.
Pleased to meet all of you…..

come hither
Come on in and lose yourself in the folds of my petals and the green of my core.
There's room for you.

an inner current
I've been working on keywords and organizing folders in Lightroom. It can be exhausting but it has to be done, otherwise I'm overwhelmed with my 50,000 images. It's a love hate affair. The hate is what it does to my eyes and my back. The love is finding old favorite images that remind me of those linear times, when I'm lost in an afternoon with the places I love most. Here is Gill Brook, my favorite place to be alone.

pleased to meet you
I am a black bellied whistling duck.
I'm pretty new to Florida.
I like being around friends, humans call that a flock.
My feet are pink and my nails are black.
I am quite awesome.

family time
I've been busy with my two sisters.
I have discovered that we have a lot in common with the birds.
We like to stay together, wander the beach, look for food, ruffle our feathers and reflect.
