on our way

I'll be trading in this view for warmer ocean views very soon.
The days have been short and intensely beautiful here in Oyster Bay.
Although this snow melted a long time ago the memory has not gone away.
Each day has brought something new to wonder over.
The songbirds are busy on the bird feeder, the geese and gulls are in large flocks that fly overhead daily, crying out while beating their wings.
Our osprey nest sits enticingly waiting for the spring migration.
I will miss the hoots of the great horned owl
that has hidden itself from me in the woods next to our house.
I will miss the spirit of this magical place that we call home.

the locals

They are here to stay and I'll do my part in providing sunflower seeds and water.

How can you not when you look at these sweet faces.

And their puffed up feathers protecting themselves from the cold.

The "cold moon"

The full moon rose slowly across the bay but not slow enough for me to capture it with the horizon of trees in front of it.
By the time I got my camera, tripod, my boots, and my coat it was going up up and away.

It kept slipping out of my viewfinder, inching it's way above the bay,
but not before it left it's warm memory on the water's surface.
Eventually it lost it's golden color and became white and distant.
A beacon in our sleeping world.

contemplation

Sometimes two on a branch is better than one.

Other times one is enough.
