social distancing

We shall pick up our love dove story at another time.
She is quietly sitting on her eggs, I check on her everyday but at a distance.
I don't want anyone to know where she is, as in snakes, crows, and raccoons.
So here we have a lovely group practicing social distancing. They are all pretty good at this.
One flies in and the other moves away.
Anhinga, green heron, snowy egret and one little blue heron.

Decisions made

These two love doves they have found a home amongst the bougainvillea petals.

Mom is looking out at the view. She likes what she sees.

And Dad is tucked in there with her. He agrees this will make a good home.
Can you see him on the right?

attachment

And so it was decided that they would care for each other.

They spent the afternoon, preening and getting to know each other.

It was time well spent.

Life is better when you find someone to love.

commitments

They came closer to each other because she had an important question for him.

Would you be a good father, will you provide well for our family?
Are you adept at flying with twigs and helping build a nest?

I will try my feathery best.

introductions

He arrived on her branch to introduce himself,
looking all puffed up and proud.

She is happy he's arrived. She is looking for a mate.

Mourning Doves

She is beautiful sitting on the limb of the tree in our backyard.

But I'm not the only one who thinks she's beautiful. He looks on from a nearby tree.
They speak in their dove talk to each other. I think we have a story brewing.

A deep sigh

I love to walk along the edge.

Somewhere between here and there

where my creative spirit thrives.

Where I let myself be lost in thought.

Ibis lesson #2

Now we have the white ibis.

You'll often see them next to the water.
See the black tips on their wings when they take flight.

This very young juvenile white ibis is taking preening lessons from the grownups.

And this molting juvenile white ibis has found a quiet spot to molt!

This beauty is the adult breeding glossy ibis.

Their colors are spectacular especially when they catch the light.

And this non breeding adult glossy ibis is less reddish on his head and neck.
I'm hoping to find a juvenile glossy ibis but so far no luck.
