White Heron

It's a thrill for me to see a white heron, especially having a meal.

It took him a very long time to manage the size of this huge fish. I thought he would choke to death!
But eventually it disappeared down his throat.
These images were taken in the Everglades back in 2012.

A Wakodahatchee morning

The early morning light is so beautiful especially when the sky is filled with wood storks.

They are fabulous fliers and pretty good at preening too.

Prehistoric face, pink feet and fluffy white feathers with a touch of black.
How can you not love a wood stork?

Little green heron family

Dad was finally left by himself with the eggs, mom was on a nearby branch preening.
He continued moving sticks around in the nest.

There was a near by sound in the bushes that startled him, and me too by the way.
His feathers were literally standing up!

So he sat himself down to take care of his family. When I checked back in a couple of hours he was still sitting there. Eggs take about 19 days to hatch so guess where I'll be in a few weeks. Let's all send positive vibes to this little family that the eggs aren't taken by some predator.

A hopeful beginning

The eggs have arrived!

Mom has just gotten off the eggs and dad has flown in to take his turn.

But not before the eggs are gently moved and the nesting material pushed and prodded to further protect their precious family.

from my garden

This is a collection of petals from my garden. I photographed them on a light box.

I love their translucent quality.

Yet they are so graphic.

These 4 20" squares will be a dramatic display on someone's wall.
I've decided to donate them to our auction.

Wakodahatchee

These green herons were tucked deeply in the marsh planning their future family. This was my first time ever seeing them together. No eggs yet but soon I hope. Aren't they beautiful?

Turks and Caicos

I was drawn to the pelicans on my many walks on the beach.

They were so funny and so active, flying, preening and diving for fish.
I really think they loved the human audience and put on a show just for us.

When they flew the aqua green water reflected on the underpart of their wings.
