egg shells

On June 1st Nellie surprised me with this amazing sighting.
She removed her first chick's shell from the nest.
I couldn't believe I was there with the camera to watch this event.

I've watched songbirds remove the shells but never the osprey.
She is amazing.

Now on June 13th I finally see the first little chick being fed by Nellie.
The nest is deep so I haven't been able to see the babies.
There is a second little chick all peach fuzz and barely seen just to the right of the first hatched chick.
I imagine she is only days old.
So for now we have two littles and I wonder if we have one more to go.
Last year we had three, two males and a female.
Nellie and Artie have done it again!
